FAQs

Frequently asked questions about our LED Lanai Lighting

CAN THE SUNSET SCONCE™ LANAI LIGHTING BE DIMMED?
Yes, our Sunset Sconce™ lanai lights are fully dimmable, and you also have full control of the lighting colors via remote.

HOW MUCH POWER DO THE LIGHTS CONSUME?
Each Sunset Sconce™ is fully rated at 18 watts each, however the typical user mode uses about 6 to 10 watts each light. So in a case where there are 8 lights in a lanai, the entire system lighting up your screen enclosure will consume approximately the same amount of energy as a single 75 watt light bulb!

ARE THERE WIRES? WHERE DO THE WIRES GO?
All of the wiring for our lanai lighting is hidden during installation, leaving a clean and professional look. The wiring travels down the inside of each vertical post to the outside of the enclosure, where again it is hidden from view. Most of the work is done on the outside of the enclosure.

ARE THE LIGHTS LOW VOLTAGE?
Yes, our pool cage lights are low voltage lighting fixtures that operate on 24 volts DC.

ARE THE LIGHTS SOLAR POWERED?
Our lighting is not solar, and for good reason. Solar lights provide a very limited amount of lighting that is best characterized as “marker lights”. Just one of our Sunset Sconce™ Lanai Lights is able to put out about 50 to 100 times the light of a typical solar light. This is for a few simple reasons: Solar lights can only store a small amount of energy in their batteries, so in order to provide light for several hours, they can only put out a small amount of light at one time. Over time, the batteries will lose also their ability to hold a full charge, even further diminishing the power available. In addition, the tiny solar panel on the top of the solar light will quickly become covered with pollen and other environmental contaminants, which prevents the battery from fully charging. Since our screen enclosure lights are hard wired together, all of these problems are eliminated.

HOW LONG DOES A LANAI LIGHTING INSTALLATION TAKE?
A complete installation of our Sunset Sconce™ lanai lighting system is typically complete in one day.

CAN THE LIGHTING BE ADDED AFTER THE LANAI HAS BEEN COMPLETED?
Yes, our pool cage lighting can easily be installed after construction is complete. There is nothing that needs to be done during the construction process of the screen enclosure. It is, however a good idea to get have our screen enclosure lighting installed before planting new landscaping around the outside of the enclosure.

CAN THE LIGHTING BE INSTALLED ON PICTURE WINDOW SCREEN ENCLOSURES?
Yes, there are several options available to mount our Sunset Sconce™ lanai lights on pool enclosures that have fewer upright posts than a traditional screen enclosure. We suggest talking with the sales representative in your area to review available options.

WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH YOUR LED LANAI LIGHTING SYSTEM?
The pricing from sales representatives will include our pool cage lights, power supply, lighting control system, and installation.

HOW DURABLE IS THE SUNSET SCONCE™ LANAI LIGHTING SYSTEM? CAN IT STAND UP TO FLORIDA HURRICANES?
Our LED screen enclosure lighting has already been proven in real life circumstances to withstand hurricane force winds, due to the quality of our materials, and U.S. manufacturing that we utilize. It is most likely that your screen enclosure will suffer serious damage from winds and flying debris before our lights even begin to suffer any damage.

ARE THERE BULBS? DO THE BULBS NEED TO BE CHANGED?
There are no “bulbs” in our Sunset Sconce™ lanai lights. Each light has a custom designed printed circuit board with LED chips that does not need to be changed. It is an extremely rare and unlikely circumstance in which one of our Sunset Sconce™ lanai lights would ever need to be replaced.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A LIGHT DOES GOES OUT?
The printed circuit LED light boards can easily be replaced, and the remaining components can be kept, so there is no need to replace the entire light fixture. In addition, since we manufacture our pool cage lights in Florida, we always have full control over our custom design and continuous supply of components. This means that you will never have to be concerned that our Sunset Sconce™ lanai lights are no longer available several years down the road.

HOW MANY LIGHTS DO I NEED?  DO I PUT THEM ON EVERY POST, OR EVERY OTHER POST?
Many customers will at first count up the total number of posts, and request an estimate based on that number. The ideal number of pool cage lights required is sometimes not quite that easy to determine. The answer depends on a few factors. If you have a typical 3 sided enclosure, the planning/layout usually starts on the long middle wall, which is quite often the focal point from within the home. If there are an even number of posts on that wall, putting a light on every other post may not look completely balanced or symmetrical. Locations of doors (typically avoided) along the side walls can also come into consideration as well.

Some customers will light every post, and other customers light every other post. In some cases, it might be every post on the middle wall, and every other post on the side walls. This is all decided by the budget for the project, the layout of the enclosure, and customer wants/needs. It is best to talk with a sales representative to help decide the correct number of pool cage lights for your screen enclosure.

I ALREADY HAVE AN EXISTING TRANSFORMER FOR MY LANDSCAPE LIGHTING, CAN I USE IT?
No, our lights operate on a different voltage than most landscape lights. Landscape lights typically operate on 12 volts AC, while our screen enclosure lights operate on 24 volts DC.

I DON’T WANT ALL THE LED COLORS. CAN I GET JUST WHITE LIGHTING?
For a customer that only wants white lighting, we always explain the following, which typically changes their entire outlook regarding color. Our Sunset Sconce™ lanai lights come standard with both white lighting and colored lighting. Here is the benefit of the colors…adding some color along with the white allows you to “customize”, or fine tune the standard white lighting to meet your specific taste. For example, by adding a touch of orange (and dimming) to the standard white lighting, you can create a beautiful and soothing candle light effect (ultra warm white). Adding a touch of blue to the standard white lighting creates a very bright, or “daylight” white. This gives you a level of flexibility and white lighting options that you would not have, if you only had standard white lighting.

CAN THE LIGHTS BE MOUNTED IN CORNERS?
Yes, we have a sleek, low profile adapter that allows our lights to be securely mounted in the corners of screen enclosures.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY?
Our lanai lighting comes with a 4 year manufacturers warranty. All other components of the system are also covered under this same 4 year warranty.
